Russian Deputy Prime Minister Ilya Klebanov on Friday said it was premature to decide how Russia should respond to the US deployment of a National Missile Defense system (NMD).
"The main problem is the possible US withdrawal from the Anti- Ballistic Missile (ABM) treaty. But so far it is premature to say what the counter-measures should be," said Klebanov in response to suggestions of several experts on developing Russia's own missile defense system to resist the NMD.
"It is useless to try to intimidate anyone today. The US should be convinced that their plans are tilting the world balance," Klebanov said.
However, Klebanov reiterated that Russia has technical means "to overcome any NMD system."
