New York Business Council to Make Purchases in China

The New York Asian Business Development Council launched a trade meeting titled the "Asian Council of the USA Conference 2001" Friday in this capital of south China's Guangdong Province, with the aim of purchasing certain Chinese goods, and seeking business orders as well as technological cooperation with China.

As a semi-official local organization, the council has been engaged in boosting trade between the United States and the Asian nations, with its partners engaged in various sectors ranging from building materials to textiles.

"A large proportion of U.S. companies are keen to cooperate with their Chinese counterparts, and China's expected entry into the World Trade Organization will benefit us," Mark Lawton, secretary-general of the New York State Governor's International Business Council, said at the meeting.

In addition to buying certain Chinese goods, the council also plans to seek partners to process and assemble motorcycles, as well as to seek technological cooperation in the areas of environmental protection and flood control.
