China to Promote Environmentally Sound Consumption

China Consumers Association is launching a nationwide survey to promote environmentally sound consumption, according to a briefing by the association Friday.

There will be 10 million questionnaires handed out by the association's branches around the country. Meanwhile, newspapers and websites will post the questionnaire for consumers to fill in.

Li Baoguo, vice president of the CCA, said the priority should be enhancing consumers' awareness of the environment, thus enabling them to fight against production and marketing that harm the environment and consumers' health.

Li said that the results of the survey will be submitted to the State Council and other related departments for them to consider in making policy decisions. He hoped it will influence on the policies concerning an ecology tax, organic food and energy-saving products development.

The vice president also noted that the promotion conforms to the spirit of a "green" Olympics. He promised to present the results to the International Olympic Committee for their reference.
