Jiang Zemin Visits Hi-tech Achievement Exhibition
General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee and Chinese President Jiang Zemin Thursday night visited a national exhibition of the achievements made by China's "863" High-Technology Program in its 15 years of history.

The "863" program, initiated in March 1986 according to the suggestion of four Chinese scientists and the approval of Deng Xiaoping, aims at making breakthroughs in some fields of science and technology.

Knowing from the exhibition that the program has directly increased more than 56 billion yuan of production value and produced more than 200 billion yuan of economic results, Jiang, also Chairman of the Central Military Commission, expressed his hope that the Chinese scientists will continue their efforts in bring more achievements to the program.

Hu Jintao, a member of the Political Bureau Standing Committee of the CPC Central Committee, Vice-President and Vice-Chairman of the Central Military Commission, also visited the exhibition Thursday night together with Jiang.

Li Lanqing, a member of the Political Bureau Standing Committee of the CPC Central Committee and Vice-Premier, visited the exhibition the other day.
