CPPCC Spokesman Urges Taiwan to Accept "One China" Principle
A spokesman for the upcoming fourth session of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee has urged Taiwan authorities to accept the "One China" principle.
Realities have proved that it is unpopular for Taiwan authorities to attempt to avoid and blur the "One China" principle, spokesman Qi Huaiyuan said at a press conference Friday, adding that the only wise option for the Taiwan authorities is to accept the "One China" principle as soon as possible.
Qi said that the root cause of tension between the two sides of the Taiwan Straits has not been eliminated in that the Taiwan authorities have, up to the present, refused to accept the "One China" principle and recognize the common understanding between the Association for Relations across the Taiwan Straits and the Strait Exchange Foundation and that is also the fundamental cause for the current social turmoil and disorder in Taiwan, the spokesman said.
