CPPCC Spokesman On Issue of Falun Gong

The Chinese Government's ban of the Falun Gong cult is warmly welcomed and supported by members of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) committees at all levels and people from all walks of life in China, spokesman for the upcoming annual session of the CPPCC National Committee said Friday.

Non-Communist parties, All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce, persons with no party affiliation and representatives from Chinese religious circles all have held symposiums to unveil the true nature of the Falun Gong cult and crimes it has committed, said Qi Huaiyuan, spokesman for the Fourth Session of the Ninth National Committee of the CPPCC scheduled to open here on Saturday.

They have clearly realized the anti-humanity, anti-society and anti-science nature and harm of the Falun Gong cult, Qi said.

Qi made the remarks at Friday's news conference when answering a question on the Falun Gong cult's activities in Hong Kong.

Qi cited Tung Chee-hwa, the chief executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, as saying that Hong Kong will not allow anyone to use Hong Kong's freedom and tolerance to affect social order and disrupt social stability in Hong Kong and the interior areas of China.

"Mr. Tung's firm stand to safeguard the 'one country, two systems' principle fully accords with the interests of the state and Hong Kong," Qi said.
