Pakistan Not to Get Involved in Arm Race Despite Hike in Indian Defense Budget
Pakistani government reiterated on Friday that it will not get involved in an arms race with India by jacking defense budget as the latter did, according to a report by the Associated Press of Pakistan.
Press Secretary to Pakistani Chief Executive Major General Rashid Qureshi said in Rawalpindi that there is no likelihood for Pakistan to increase defense allocation and to join an arms race with India as this policy has already been announced by Chief Executive Pervez Musharraf.
However, appropriate steps are in the offing to effectively counter the hike in Indian defense budget while maximum restraint is being observed by Pakistani government, added Rashid.
Gen. Rashid, also Pakistan Army Spokesman, said in the face of such a situation, Pakistan believes that keeping the level of deterrence is necessary for the safety and security of the country.
