Cuban Foreign Minister "Satisfied" with China Visit

Visiting Cuban Foreign Minister Felipe Perez Roque said that he is "satisfied" with his China visit, and he is convinced that the Cuba-China relations in politics, economy and other fields will be continuously improved.

He made the remarks at a press conference here Friday afternoon.

Talking about his meetings with Chinese President Jiang Zemin, Vice-Premier Qian Qichen and Foreign Minister Tang Jiaxuan, Perez noted that these meetings and talks were held in a friendly and frank atmosphere, filled with mutual respect.

He pointed out that Cuba-China political relations are experiencing a "very good" development, and major leaders of the two countries have maintained constant high-level political dialogues on the basis of mutual respect.

The two sides share extensive common views on international situations, and conduct cooperation in various international organizations, added the minister.

He went on to say that bilateral economic and trade cooperation is expanding, with an increasing bilateral trade volume and more joint ventures, pointing out that there are still more possibilities for the expansion of such cooperation.

He stressed that Cuba firmly supports the Chinese government's stance on the Taiwan issue.

He also voiced Cuba's support for Beijing's bid to host the 2008 Olympic Games.

Perez is here as a guest of his Chinese counterpart Tang Jiaxuan. Besides Beijing, he also visited Shanghai, Nanjing and Dalian during his visit.

He said that he had received a "deep impression" from the great achievements China made during its modernization drive.
