CPPCC Nat'l Committee Session to Open Tomorrow: SpokesmanThe Fourth Session of the Ninth National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) is due to open at 15:00 Saturday and end on the afternoon of March 12, CPPCC spokesman Qi Huaiyuan announced Friday, March 2.The spokesman told a news briefing that the participants in the session will hear and discuss a report on the work of the CPPCC National Committee to be presented by Ye Xuanping, vice-chairman of the CPPCC National Committee; a report on proposals put forward by CPPCC National Committee members since the last annual session; attend the Fourth Session of the Ninth National People's Congress (NPC) as observers to hear and discuss the report on the outline of the 10th Five-Year Plan for National Economic and Social Development (2001-2005) to be presented by Premier Zhu Rongji and other reports to be delivered at the NPC session; discuss and approve a report by the Subcommittee for Handling Proposals of the CPPCC National Committee on the review of proposals to be raised at the current session of the CPPCC National Committee; and elect additional members to the Standing Committee of the CPPCC National Committee. Li Ruihuan, chairman of the CPPCC National Committee, is scheduled to address the closing of the conference. The spokesman said that reporters would be granted the opportunities to cover the full sessions as well as some panel discussions jointly held by CPPCC National Committee members from different sectors and group discussions. Two news conferences will be held during the session on such subjects as diverting water from southern China to northern China and the development of high-tech industries, the spokesman noted.
