Vice-President Hu Jintao Meets Nepalese King

Chinese Vice President Hu Jintao said Friday that China believes the friendship between China and Nepal will further develop in the new century.

Hu made the remarks while meeting with King Birendra Bir Bikram Shah Dev of Nepal, who is on a seven-day state visit to China. Chinese President Jiang Zemin met the king Thursday.

Hu noted that China and Nepal enjoy traditional friendship, and the bilateral relations have had new development over the past years as leaders of the two countries paid great attention. The relations are now characterized by equal treatment, friendship and trust, mutual support and sincere cooperation, he said.

"China is willing to work with the Nepalese side to build a good-neighborly partnership to last for generations between the two countries," he said.

King Birendra said he agreed with Hu's comments on bilateral relations. He stressed the Nepalese side will always observe a policy of friendship with China.

The king also praised the friendly cooperation with China in international and regional issues, and thanked China for its long- term support of Nepal.
