SW China Forest Fire Under Control

A forest fire in southwest China's Sichuan Province has been brought under control and some 1,400 firefighters are continuing their efforts to put out the blaze completely, according to the provincial fire-control department.

The fire has been confined within firebreaks, but a gentle breeze from 10 p.m. last night may fan the embers, officials of the department said.

The fire broke out at noon on February 25 in the forests in Yajiang County.

Artificial rainfall was not possible due to a clear sky.

A plane with fire-extinguishing equipment has been dispatched to the site by the southwest station of the State Forestry Administration.
