Chinese President Jiang Zemin Meets Cuban FMJiang said during the meeting that the Cuban people, under the leadership of President Fidel Castro, have withstood exterior pressure, overcome various difficulties, consistently explored development routes compatible to the national condition, and produced fruitful results. China will strive to safeguard world peace and stability and realize common progress and prosperity through joint efforts with other developing countries, Jiang said. The president spoke highly of bilateral ties, referring to the frequent high-level contacts and the increasing bilateral and multi-lateral cooperation. He also expressed strong confidence in bilateral ties in the new century. Perez conveyed to Jiang the kind regards from President Castro and Jiang also asked Perez to convey best wishes to his Cuban counterpart. Perez was impressed with the great achievements made by the Chinese Communist Party (CPC), the government and the people in economic development. China's success has greatly encouraged the common developing countries and Cuba believes that the Chinese people, under the leadership of the CPC with Jiang at the core, would achieve even greater results. He reiterated that Cuba will, as always, support the just cause of the Chinese people in realizing a complete reunification of the country. Cuba is willing to strengthen cooperation with China in all fields through concerted efforts. The foreign minister is currently on a seven-day official visit at the invitation of his Chinese counterpart Tang Jiaxuan.
