HK Districts Launching New Drive to Promote Tourism

The 18 district councils of Hong Kong and the Home Affairs Department are launching the new "Tourism Guides for the 18 Districts," the extensive planting of Bauhinia and the development of tourist spots to promote tourism in Hong Kong.

Speaking at the Launching Ceremony of the "Tourism Guides for the 18 Districts" and Bauhinia Sketching Demonstration Thursday, Shelley Lee, director of home affairs, said, "Through the planting of Bauhinia blakeana and the development of more Bauhinia gardens we hope to provide more tourist attractions in all 18 districts."

"When Bauhinia blakeana is in full bloom from November to March, we will plan a Bauhinia Festival to attract tourists from all over the world to visit Hong Kong," she said.

The new Tourism Guides contains a set of 18 brochures on the unique characteristics and favorite tourist spots in each of the 18 districts to help tourists to explore the districts' individual development, culture, traditions, major festivals, district events and let them feel the vitality of Hong Kong, Lee added.

She also noted that the 18 district councils had taken the lead by planning characteristic activities in support of the Hong Kong Tourist Association's "City of Life: Hong Kong is it!" program, which will commence in April.

Well-illustrated with colorful photographs and guide maps, useful information in the Tourism Guides is provided by the respective district councils, including a transportation guide, a telephone list and addresses of hotels and facilities.
