Indonesian President Visits Sudan

Indonesian President Abdurrahman Wahid arrived Wednesday afternoon for a two-day official visit to Sudan.

Wahid was welcomed at Khartoum International Airport by Sudanese President Omar Hassan Ahmed el-Bashir. He told the press that his visit will focus on the bilateral relations and issues of common concern.

Wahid's entourage included ministers of foreign affairs and defense, and some parliament members.

Bashir and Wahid are expected to hold talks later Wednesday.

During his stay here, Wahid is expected to sign a memorandum of understanding to establish a joint ministerial commission, which is scheduled to convene in Indonesian capital Jakarta in April.

The MOU is aimed at promoting cooperation in trade, investment and cultural areas between Sudan and Indonesia.

This is the fifth leg of Wahid's tour of the Middle East region, which has taken him to Yemen, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt and Nigeria.
