Strong Earthquake Jolts El Salvador AgainA strong earthquake shook the capital of El Salvador on Wednesday, panicking local residents still recovering from two devastating quakes in a month or so and a chain of strong aftershocks, reports reaching here said.But no immediate reports of damage or injuries are yet available. The 5.4-magnitude quake struck at 12:42 p.m. local time (18:52 GMT) and was centered about 100 kilometers (60 miles) south of the capital. It lasted some 40 seconds and was felt across the country and as far away as Nicaragua. Moreover, the quake caused landslides along main highways in central and western El Salvador. Two powerful earthquakes, on January 13 and February 13, left more than 1,200 people dead and another 8,000 injured. The first quake was magnitude 7.6. The second was 6.6. |
