Hong Kong to Host Employment Information Expo

Job-seekers will get the latest information on the labor market, retraining opportunities and the government's employment services at a joint exhibition of the Hong Kong Labor Department and the Employees Retraining Board (ERB) Friday.

The large-scale recruitment event, "Employment Information Expo 2001," will be held in the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center Friday, according to a government press release.

"The event aims at keeping job-seekers abreast of the latest employment information and providing a direct recruitment channel for employers," said Catherine Chan Tak-ching, senior labor officer.

"Vacancies currently registered with the department will be displayed for on-the-spot applications. Visitors can also inquire about the department's employment services or visit the department 's Interactive Employment Service website using the computers at the exhibition," she added.

A total of 25 employers from different fields will also participate in the event and provide about 2,000 current vacancies for job-seekers. They will set up individual counters to answer inquiries directly, display vacancy information and receive on- site applications.

There will also be information on retraining programs provided by 11 retraining institutes of the ERB. Talks and video shows on retraining opportunities, job seeking techniques and the latest labor market information will be arranged.
