State Relics Park to Be Built in East China
A total of 220 million yuan will be invested to turn the Liangzhu Relics site, in east China's Zhejiang Province, into a state relics park.
It will be the first state-invested archaeological relics park in China.
Discovered in 1936, the Liangzhu site, covering an area of 33.8 square kilometers near the Yuhang County seat in eastern Zhejiang, dates back 5,300 years, and is one of the most important Neolithic sites in the Yangtze River valley.
With highly developed agriculture, major construction projects and a well developed social organization system in ancient time, Liangzhu is a jewel of China's 5,000-year-old civilization.
The park will be completed in 2005.
It is learned that the Liangzhu relics site will apply for the heritage list in October 2004.
