CMC Vice-Chairman Meets Nepalese King

Chi Haotian, vice-chairman of the Central Military Commission of China, met Thursday with Birendra Bir Bikram Shah Dev, king of Nepal.

Chi, who is also the defense minister and a State Councilor, thanked Birendra for the hospitality accorded to him during his Nepal trip not long ago. The king of Nepal is on a 7-day state visit to China.

He said that he experienced the friendly sentiment of the Nepalese people and army towards the Chinese people and the army during the trip.

Chi said that developing and consolidating the friendly cooperation between China and Nepal, two neighboring countries, not only confirm to the interests of the two peoples, but also benefit the peace and stability in the Asia-Pacific region.

China is glad to see the achievements the Nepalese people have made under the leadership of Birendra, Chi noted.

He believes the Birendra's current visit to China will further promote the bilateral relations in the new century.

Birendra thanked China's long-term support and assistance to his country and hoped the two countries would continue the exchange of multi-level visits and further enhance their friendly cooperation.
