Colombian President Arrives for State Visit to Malaysia

Colombian President Andres Pastrana Arango arrived Thursday for a four-day state visit.

This is the first visit by a Colombian president to Malaysia to strengthen linkages and cooperation between the two countries.

During the visit, at the invitation of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong(King) Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah, the Colombian leader is scheduled to call on Sultan Salahuddin and to hold talks with Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad.

Pastrana, being accompanied by his wife and a 60-member delegation which includes Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Trade,Agriculture and Education, is also scheduled to visit the Kuala Lumpur City Hall and the world's highest building -- Petronas Twin Towers.

Bilateral trade between Malaysia and Colombia was very little, amounting to only 13 million ringgit (US$3.42 million) last year with Colombia importing rubber products and electrical appliances and exporting pharmaceutical products, fertilizers, chemicals and artificial teeth.
