International Forum on China, World to Be Held

The International Forum on China and the World in the 21st Century will be held in Beijing, September 10-12.

The announcement was made Wednesday by Mei Zhaorong, president of the Chinese People's Institute of Foreign Affairs, sponsor of the forum.

Mei said the forum is aiming at exploring such issues as the general trend of the international situation in the 21st century, opportunities and challenges facing China, and in particular, how China's development will affect the world.

Participants in the forum will include former statesmen, scholars and entrepreneurs from Asia, Europe, America and Africa, as well as Chinese officials, entrepreneurs and experts on international affairs.

During the forum, participants will exchange views on topics such as the world political and security environment China will face in the coming decade, the tendencies of China's socio- economic development, the implementation of China's strategy on developing its western areas, reform of China's state-owned enterprises, how the WTO (World Trade Organization) membership will affect China, and the perspective of China's foreign trade and economic cooperation.

The forum is co-sponsored by the Hong Kong Sino International Foundation Ltd., the Center for World Affairs Studies of Xinhua News Agency and the China Global Public Relations Company.
