UAE Blames US Human Rights Report

A leading Arabic daily of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Wednesday described the report published by the US State Department on the human rights conditions all over the world as "biased and full of mine fields."

The Sharjah-based Al Khaleej said: "The report tends to show a lot of cases, names and figures without attempting to justify them, thus, causing this flow of information to lose its meaning."

The US has an evident interest in the report in favoring its allies and "turning a blind eye to the crimes being committed there," said the paper.

"This is more clear in the report about human rights records in Israel and the Palestinian territories," said the paper. "It does point to some violations by Israel, including bombing of towns, hostile attitude of settlers, assassination of Palestinian officials and economic embargo on the Palestinians," the paper added.

"But at the same time, it speaks about a Palestinian violence that led to killing of Israeli soldiers. By this, the US State Department tries to blame the Palestinians for the deterioration of security situation in the occupied territories," the paper said.

According to the newspaper, the same logic is applied to Iraq. " The report on Iraq's record of human rights laments the miseries created by Baghdad without mentioning Washington's responsibility in inflicting unprecedented damage to life in Iraq which returned it to medieval times," it said.
