China Invites Bids to Build Conference Facilities for Asia Forum

China has been inviting bids to build conference facilities for Boao Asia Forum that was inaugurated Tuesday morning.

The conference facilities to be built include a 50,000-sq.m. conference center, a five-star meeting hotel and villas, as well as a tarmac for helicopters.

According to local sources, the invitations were given to eight designing institutes and companies in the world, including two establishments in the United States, one in Japan and one in Australia, and have so far received bids from four of them.

The entire bidding will be over by March 20, said the sources.

The conference facilities will be situated in Dongyu Isle near the estuary of Wanquan River which originates from central Hainan Island, flows northeastwards and empties itself into the South China Sea via Boao of Qionghai on the mid-east coast.

The conference facilities are expected to be ready for service during the first annual meeting of Boao Asia Forum scheduled for next year.

The construction will begin in May and is expected to be finished before September next year, said local sources.
