Japanese Ruling Coalition Execs Eye Replacement of Mori in April

Senior ruling coalition executives have agreed to have Prime Minister Yoshiro Mori resign and to elect a new Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) president in April after the fiscal 2001 budget passes the Diet, a major daily reported Tuesday.

The Asahi Shimbun said the executives of the LDP and its allies -- the New Komeito party and the New Conservative Party -- also wish Mori to announce his resignation at the LDP convention slated for March 13.
