Romanian Prime Minister Meets Chinese State Councilor

Romanian Prime Minister Adrian Nastase met with Chinese State Councilor Wu Yi Tuesday and expressed his hope to strengthen friendly cooperation with China, especially in the political and economic fields.

During their meeting, Nastase said Romania and China have enjoyed good relations since diplomatic ties were established 50 years ago. He added that greater efforts should be exerted now to make their economic and trade ties commensurate with political links.

Wu pointed out that to further develop bilateral cooperation was right the aim of her current visit, especially in the economic field. She said China cherishes the friendship with Romania and supports Romania's efforts to join the European Union (EU).

Bilateral economic relations constitute an important part in the overall relations between the two countries, Wu said, adding that she hoped the two sides could exploit new fields of cooperation with new means while continuing to develop traditional trade.

She said the Chinese government is willing to encourage Chinese entrepreneurs to participate in Romania's economic development and at the same time, it would like to see more competitive Romanian products penetrate the Chinese market.

Wu arrived here Saturday on a four-day visit, the last leg of her five-nation European tour, which also took her to Slovakia, Hungary, Croatia and Slovenia.
