CPPCC Standing Committee Closes 12th Meeting

The Fourth Session of the National Committee of the Ninth Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), due to open on March 3, will focus on the country's tenth Five-Year Plan (2001-2005), Li Ruihuan, chairman of the CPPCC National Committee, said Wednesday.

He made the statement at the close of the 12th meeting of the Standing Committee of the CPPCC's National Committee, which was convened on February 26-28.

The draft Tenth Five-Year (2001-2005) Plan, submitted by the State Development Planning Commission last December, is regarded as an important step to realize the third goal of China's modernization strategy, that is, to have the per capita GNP reach the level of middle-income developed countries by 2050, said Li.

The CPPCC has fully played its consultative role in the country 's decision-making process since its third annual session, said Zheng Wantong, secretary-general of the CPPCC National Committee.
