China to Widen Coverage of Medicare

According to sources from the National Medicare Working Conference held by the Ministry of Labor and Social Security, China will gradually widen the coverage of basic medicare and aim at a system to cover 90 percent cities with a population of 80 million by the end of this year.

It is reported that in China a basic medicare system has been built in cities and towns by the end of last year. Medicare reform as setting up a basic policy system for medicare, multilayer medical guarantee and a supporting system of medicine and sanitation reform have been carried out in 284 cities with a coverage of 43 million persons. The system for cities already launched is in smooth operation and its reform has seen initial result and a medicare management system has been initially established.
