Inland-HK Sci-Tech Cooperation Hailed

Zhou Guangzhao, chairman of China Science and Technology Association on February 26 hailed the advent of golden time for developing inland-Hong Kong cooperation and called for no time loss in like effort by the two sides in developing science and technology.

Zhou, also vice chairman of China NPC Standing Committee made the remarks during his meeting with Francis Ho (Ho Suen-wai), director-general with HK Chief Executive's Commission on Innovation and Technology. Francis Ho has descended with his 36-member delegation on the occasion marking the 15th anniversary of "March 1986 Scheme" in Beijing. He called people's attention to the fact there has been given rise to a favorable environment contributing to China's development. Thanks to the strategy of rejuvenating the nation through science and technology, an increased amount of investment have been made in science and education and a large number of scientific and technological personnel studying abroad have been back home in helping building up the country.

Zhou briefed Ho on the situation of implementing the strategy of rejuvenating China through science and technology, the function and practice of China Science and Technology Association and answered questions regarding inland-HK sci-tech cooperation and possible changes after China's access to WTO.

Francis Ho said Mr. Tung Chee Hwa has established a new innovation and technology system to boost Hong Kong's economic growth. He hoped more sci-tech cooperation and increased bilateral institutional exchanges to be developed, more job opportunities to be created and greater investment made in China's mainland.
