Seminar on Punishing Minor Offenses Held

A seminar on punishing minor offenses was held here on Monday and Tuesday. The seminar was co-sponsored by the Chinese Foreign Ministry and the Office of the U.N. High Commissioner for Human Rights.

Officials from various Chinese government institutions and the High Commissioner's Office and experts from home and abroad participated in the event.

Attendants had a wide and extensive exchange of views on issues such as the definition of minor offenses and human rights protection in punishment of such minor offenses.

Vice Foreign Minister Wang Guangya and the U.N. High Commissioner for Human Rights Mary Robinson made speeches at the opening ceremony Monday.
