Mitsubishi's Response Unsatisfactory: CCA

After a long time of playing rascality Mitsubishi Motors finally shows its stand about calling back its Pajero V31, V33 land-cruisers for inspection lately. However, China Consumers' Association (CCA) pointed out that Mitsubishi failed to give a full answer to the problem on compensations that will have to be made to Chinese customers.

Mitsubishi Beijing Office avows that Mitsubishi will take emergency measures to step up production of improved braking vittas for its Pajero V31 and V33 land-cruisers. That it will soon send these to China and re-calculate the guarantee periods of the examined parts on the basis of inspection dates with 10 new service stations added to its 44 service centers in China.

Hideaki Anraku, put in charge of Mitsubishi Beijing Office, said that as regards accidents proved to be caused by technological problems by Mitsubishi products Mitsubishi will make compensations according to Chinese laws.

CCA welcomed the new measures declared by Mitsubishi. But it still refuses to give a clear answer to the problem of compensations for the loss of work stoppages, time, etc. CCA still hopes further to have negotiations with Mitsubishi on such problems as "consumers have the right to return the faulty products" as set by Article 48 in "China's Law on Protecting Consumers' Rights and Interests".

Sources say it is found out through initial inspections in Shenzhen that more than 40 percent of Pajero V31, V33 land-cruisers here have hidden perils of serious abrasion of braking vittas and oil leaking. So far, there have been over 100 Pajero users jointly signed for prosecution of Mitsubishi Motors.

Authoritative sources told that Shenzhen had begun to inspect Pajero V31, V33 land-cruisers on February 12 after Mitsubishi promised component replacements free of charge for the Chinese consumers. Shenzhen Mitsubishi Motors Service Center and Sime-darby Auto Service have made a check over 1,000 old Pajero V31, V33 land-cruisers, among which, more than 100 vehicles have shown serious abrasion. Some vittas have been torn or worn out, and some have even been entirely out of form. Among the over 1,000 vehicles inspected, more than 40 percent have hidden troubles to various degrees. The CCA required Mitsubishi to deal with these problems as soon as possible.

Meanwhile, according to news release of Xinhua, the family members of Lu Hui, victim of the "Pajero Accident in Changsha", had declared that they are ready to sue the Mitsubishi at any moment. Li Zhiming, a driver who has long kept silence in the case, also declares that he will uphold his lawful benefits by using the laws available.

Li Zhiming told news media in Nanchang during the interview on phone calls that "I am a consumer of Mitsubishi land-cruiser. I did not violate any rules or regulations in driving. The accident was caused by drawback in auto design. I am a driver and a victim involved. The accident has seriously influenced the normal work and daily life of my family. We have great spiritual pressure."
