CPPCC National Committee Reviews Year's Work


CPPCC National Committee Session to Open March 3
The Standing Committee of the Ninth Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee met Monday to review its work over the past year.

The meeting was held on the eve of the fourth annual session of the CPPCC, scheduled for March 3.

According to information from the meeting, CPPCC members have filed 3,733 proposals on critical issues in China's economic and social development since the advisory body's last annual session, in March 2000.

Of all the proposals, 3,372 were transferred to the relevant authorities, and 3,302 had been implemented by February 20, 2001.

CPPCC subcommittees have carried out massive investigations on over 40 issues concerning the 10th Five-Year Plan for national economic and social development, and their reports have received close attention from the authorities concerned and asserted an important influence on policy makers, the meeting heard.

Monday's meeting was presided over by CPPCC National Committee Chairman Li Ruihuan.
