Vietnamese Pianist Confident of China Debut
Well-known Vietnamese pianist, Dang Thai Son, Tuesday said he was confident enough about his China debut for contributing delicate music to the Chinese audience.
"Playing the piano for the Chinese music fans is always my dream," Dang said when meeting the press here in Beijing.
At the Beijing solo concert on February 28 at the Century Theater, Dang is scheduled to perform carefully selected music pieces such as Five Preludes (from book 2) by Debussy, Three Mazurkas and Scherzo No. 2 in b-flat Minor by Chopin, Five "Songs without Words" and Rondo Capriccioso by Mendelssohn, and the piano solo version of Ravel's La Valse.
Dang, who was born in 1958 in Hanoi, won the Gold Medal at the Tenth International Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw in October 1980, which made him internationally famous.
"Dang has achieved high level of delicacy in playing the piano, " Bian Zushan, a well-known Chinese conductor, said at the press conference.
Dang studied piano with his mother at the Hanoi Music School from 1965 to 1976, then at the Moscow State Tchaikovsky Conservatory with Vladimir Natanson and Dmitry Bashkirov.
Since winning the Chopin Competition -- the first for an Asian pianist -- Dang toured more than 40 countries and territories as a solo performer. He has also played with a number of symphony, the BBC Philharmonic and the Dresden Philharmonic.
After the Beijing concert, Dang is scheduled to tour Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Fuzhou.
