President Jiang Zemin Meets Nepalese King

Chinese President Jiang Zemin met Tuesday in Boao with Birendra Bir Bikram Shah Dev, king of Nepal.

Jiang said the king's visit to China, the first visit to China by a head of state in the new century, demonstrated the good-neighborliness between China and Nepal.

He said the king's presence at the Boao Forum for Asia "added color" to the forum, which opened here Tuesday at Boao, a small town some 160 kilometers south of Haikou, capital of Hainan province.

Birendra arrived here Monday for a seven-day state visit to China as guest of President Jiang. The king thanked Jiang for his invitation and said he is glad to attend the Boao forum.

Jiang said the forum will focus on Asia and be a place for people interested in Asian development to exchange information and conduct cooperation. The forum will help enhance mutual understanding and cooperation among Asian countries and between Asia and other parts of the world as well.
