Yugoslavia, Slovakia to Intensify Bilateral Relations
Slovak President Rudolf Schuster and his visiting Yugoslav counterpart Vojislav Kostunica agreed on Monday to revive bilateral ties at various levels, especially in the economic field, according to reports reaching.
After a meeting in Bratislava, Schuster told reporters that Slovakia would have a real chance of taking part in the bids for the reconstruction of Yugoslav energy facilities and bridges.
The presidents also discussed scientific-technical cooperation and cultural exchanges between both countries.
Schuster invited Kostunica to participate in an informal meeting of Central European presidents which is planed to be held in the High Tatras on September 12.
On the political situation in Yugoslavia, Kostunica said that it was very difficult to deal with domestic problems, especially violence and terrorism in southern Serbia.
To solve the problem, he stressed that the Yugoslav government worked out a long-term plan to ensure the peace in Serbia and reintegrate the Albanian minority within the communities.
Meanwhile, the president called for NATO to narrow the security zone, shortening it from 400 kilometers to 100 kilometers and cancel the prohibition of the flights of Yugoslav air force.
Regarding Slobodan Milosevic, Kostunica said the former president's fate and responsibility are solely the matter of Yugoslav judicial bodies.
Kostunica also met Slovak Prime Minister Mikulas Dzurinda and Parliament Speaker Jozef Migas on the same day.
Foreign Ministers of the two countries signed bilateral agreement today on partially canceling visa requirements, on preventing double taxation and on science and technology cooperation.
