Mubarak to Visit Jordan Tuesday
Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak will visit Jordan on Tuesday for talks with Jordan's King Abdullah Bin al-Hussein on "a number of key issues," Egyptian Foreign Minister Amr Moussa said here late Monday.
Moussa said that the two leaders will deal with primarily preparations for the next Arab summit, which is scheduled to be held in the Jordanian capital Amman, the state-run Middle East News Agency reported.
They are also expected to explore ways of pushing forward the Middle East peace process and discuss the Iraqi issue, inter-Arab relations and bilateral ties, Moussa said.
Mubarak's visit comes just after U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell concluded a regional tour Monday.
During his four-day visit of the region, Powell primarily tried to shore up the decade-old U.N. sanctions against Iraq.
As to the stalled Israeli-Palestinians peace talks, Powell reaffirmed the U.S. committment to helping reach a lasting peace in the region, but urged both the Palestinians and Israelis to take measures to reduce the violence.
As the first Arab country to sign a peace treaty with Israel in 1979, Egypt has been playing a key mediating role in the peace process.
