China to Abide by Int'l Rules: Chief WTO NegotiatorChina will abide by international rules after its admission to the World Trade Organization (WTO), Chinese chief WTO negotiator Long Yongtu said in Boao Monday.Long made the remark at a luncheon sponsored by the Preparatory Committee of the Boao Forum for Asia (BFA), which will be formally launched Tuesday. According to him, China's commitment to the international community during its negotiations for WTO accession includes observing international rules and gradually opening its market. "The commitment is not aimed at WTO accession alone, but more importantly, at furthering the process of establishing a socialist market economy in China and its drive of opening to the outside world, so that the country can take a more active role in the process of economic globalization," the chief negotiator said. The commitment shows that China is a responsible member of the international community, and will help the establishment of a transparent, fair and predictable environment of rule of law in China, Long said. Meanwhile, the official made it clear that it is the hope of China that other countries will also abide by prevailing international rules in dealing with China, instead of using a double standard. On the opening of China's market, Long said the opening will be gradual and conditional, and must be in proportion to China's development stage in both speed and width. |
