Chinese Judges Begin Wearing New Uniform on May 1Beginning May 1, Chinese judges across the country will unanimously wear new uniforms designed according to international standards, a Supreme People's Court announcement says Monday. While judges at the intermediate and higher courts will be dressed in the black long robe, those working with grassroots courts are going to work in the western suit. The new design is to replace the old one that was similar to that of the police and the army, featured with epaulet and cap. Since last year, the new uniforms of judges have been tried in the supreme court as well as intermediate and higher courts in Beijing and Shanghai municipalities, Hainan Province, and Shenzhen, Dalian and Qingdao cities. The reform of the judges' uniform is a new step to develop the country's judicial sector, local observers said. |
