Xiali Carmaker to Double Turnout

Tianjin Automobile Xiali Corp., has decided to double its output of compact cars in a key effort to gain a competitive edge in the growing market.

According to the plan, it will turn out 20,000 compact cars annually, double the current capacity.

The first batch of the new type of Xiali compact cars, manufactured in north China's coastal city of Tianjin by China's Tianjin Auto Group and Japan's Toyota, rolled off the production line December 14 last year.

During the past two months, the new car has attracted over 10, 000 orders worth over 300 million yuan (US$35 million).

The company is also scheduled to develop by the end of this year a two-compartment new model called NBCI designed for young female drivers.

China is considering abolishing restrictions on the car industry, allowing automakers to manufacture all varieties of automobiles and liberalize prices on the car market to prepare for the country's imminent entry into the World Trade Organization

(WTO).
