Iraq Terms Coming Dialog with UN as Positive for Developing TiesThe planned dialog between Iraq and the United Nations will be positive for the development of their relations, an Iraqi Culture and Information Ministry spokesman said on Sunday. The spokesman made the remarks on the eve of a two-day dialog between the two sides at the U.N. headquarters in New York. Iraq has honored all commitments to destroying its weapons of mass destruction under the U.N. Resolution 687, the spokesman said. He urged the U.N. Security Council to honor its commitments and lift the decade-old sanctions the council imposed on Iraq after its invasion of Kuwait in 1990. The U.N. should deal with Iraq "in a fair way," the spokesman said. Meanwhile, he slammed the U.N. for keeping silent over the military attacks on Iraq by the United States and Britain in 1992, 1996, 1998 and the air strikes on February 16. Two civilians were killed and at least 20 others injured in the latest air raids on southern areas of Baghdad. The spokesman demanded compensation from the U.S. and Britain. |
