Gas Blast Kills One, Injures 23 in South RussiaA woman was killed and 23 others injured overnight by a apartment gas blast in Bashkortostan Republic in south Russia, media reports said Sunday.The tragedy occurred when a cylinder with propane household gas exploded in the night at a two-story dormitory of the Salavat collective farm in the republic's Karmaskaly district, the republic's Ministry for Emergency Situations was quoted as saying. The blast caused a big fire and ruined the building where the victims lived. In the burn center of Ufa, capital of the republic, eight of the injured whose nearly 80-percent skins suffered burns are in serious condition and under intensive care, the ministry said. The fire was put out at midnight and the cause to the explosion is being investigated. |
