China Holds Indisputable Sovereignty over Nansha Islands

Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhu Bangzao reiterated February 13 that China holds indisputable sovereignty over the Nansha Islands and the adjacent sea areas. He said that China is seriously concerned over the news reports that Vietnam shall set up governmental bodies on the Nansha Islands, noting that China has demanded Vietnam to clarify the reports.  

Three Gorges Rare Plant Cultivation Center Established

The Three Gorges Rare Plant Cultivation Center, a demonstrative project in China's high-tech industrialization, was recently set up in the Three Gorges Botanical Garden in Yichang, Hubei Province. And it has so far succeeded in cultivating the first batch of test-tube trees. Photo shows the colored common calla cultivated in the center.

Two Cultural Sites in Hong Kong Won UNESCO Award

The two cultural sites in Hong Kong, including the Hung Shing Shrine, built in about 1889, and the Ohel Leah Synagogue and Mikvah with a history of some 100 years, have won the Asian-Pacific Region 2000 Cultural Relic & Historic Site Protection Award given by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). Construction of Ling��ao Nuclear Power Plant Makes Headway

The construction of Ling��ao nuclear power plant makes headway since it��s launched in May 1997 and has entered the phase of fixing, debugging and transition period of electricity generation. As one of the key energy projects in the Ninth Five-Year Plan period, the designed installed capacity of the nuclear power plant is equal to that of the Daya Bay and the No.1 unit will be put into operation in July next year. Rescue Work in Full Swing in Quake-Hit Sichuan

Army trucks carrying more than 1,500 cotton-padded coats and quilts, depart for Yajiang and Kangding counties in Southwest China's Sichuan Province. An earthquake measuring 6.0 on the Richter scale shook the area at 8:09 am (00:09 GMT) February 23, killing 3 and injurying 63. More than 49,000 people were left homeless.
