Guangzhou Leads China In Social ConsumptionThe per capita social consumption volume in Guangzhou, capital of south China's Guangdong province, ranked first in China, according to the latest official statistics.The social consumption volume of Guangzhou last year reached 112.1 billion yuan (13.5 billion US dlrs), up 12 percent from the previous year, the statistics showed. According to the statistics, Guangzhou received a total of 62 million tourists last year, up 12.53 percent from the previous year. Tourism helped the city make 41.5 billion yuan (5 billion US dollars), or one-tenth of the nation's total tourism income, last year, the figure said. The consumption volume produced by the city's catering services last year was 20.8 billion yuan (2.5 billion US dlrs), up 14.3 percent over the previous year. The city also held a series of trade fairs and rebuilt a dozen indoor supermarkets in an effort to promote its commercial development. |
