IOC Inspectors Promise "Clear, Precise and Detailed" Report

IOC Team Held Press Conference in Beijing
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) evaluation commission Saturday promised to prepare a "clear, precise and detailed" report on five candidate cities bidding for hosting the 2008 Olympic Games as they concluded the first leg of the inspection tour in Beijing.

Under the new Olympic bid procedure introduced by IOC following the Salt Lake City bid scandal, bidding committees are banned from inviting IOC members to visit their cities.

Instead, an IOC evaluation team is to tour every bid city and present a report which IOC members are expected to rely heavily on for their final decision on the host city.

Although not all IOC members are going to see the candidate cities with their own eyes, they will be kept well-informed about the technical ability of each candidate city by this "well-documented" report, said Hein Verbruggen, chairman of the evaluation commission.

"You under-estimated our report; you shouldn't do that," the Dutchman joked when asked by a reporter how IOC members could make their choice on the Games venue when they never saw it by themselves.

"We intend to make a very clear, precise and detailed report about the five cities," said Verbruggen.
