Strong Earthquake Hits Maluku, Indonesia
A powerful earthquake measuring 6.5 on the Richter scale hit Indonesia's north Maluku islands Saturday, said an official of the National Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau.
The quake sent people in the city of Ternate fleeing into the streets in panic, but no reports of casualties or damage were recorded yet, said Tanto from the National Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau.
The quake was recorded at 2:23 p.m. (07:23 GMT).
Meanwhile, the Hong Kong Observatory estimated the magnitude at 6.9 on the Richter scale.
