Boao Asian Forum to Be Established

The Boao Forum of Asia (BFO) will formally announce its establishment in Hainan Province on February 27.

The BFO is the first international meeting organization permanently based in Hainan Pronvince, south China.

Former Australian Prime Minister Robert Hawke, former Japanese Prime Minister Yasuhiro Nakasone and former Filipino President Fidel Ramos, representing the three initiating countries, will attend the founding ceremony of the BFO, together with Chinese leaders.

At the invitation of the Chinese government, King Birendra of Nepal and Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad will participate as special guests, along with former statesmen and delegates from 25 countries including Pakistan, Mongolia, Vietnam, the Republic of Korea, Kazakstan, and Tajikistan.

At the meeting of experts and preparatory meeting of the BFO, to be held on February 26, the guidance for the BFO Charter will be discussed, and the BFO Declaration will be passed.

The BFO will be a non-governmental, non-profit, regular and open international forum with a fixed venue. Promoting high-level dialog on regional issues such as economic development, population and the environment, the BFO is expected to help deepen mutual understanding and cooperation among Asian countries, and strengthen ties between Asia and the rest of the world.
