EU Seeks Oil Cooperation With Iran

The European Union (EU) will send a trade delegation to Iran in March to seek cooperation in oil, gas and petrochemical projects, the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) reported on Friday.

Jeremy Hanley, chairman of the British-Iranian Chamber of Commerce and the head of the delegation, was quoted as saying that the three-day mission, starting on March 10, would be a "timely and appropriate venture."

"Iran certainly provides suitable environment for greater economic and trade interaction, and we, as a pan-European mission, hope that we can provide technology, know-how, financing instruments and partners for Iran's current and upcoming projects," Hanley said.

"Iran has one of the most diverse oil economies in the world and a well-educated supply of human resources," he said, adding that the hydrocarbon sector is undoubtedly a key engine in Iran's path of economic growth and development.

The visit is being organized by Iranian international trade and investment missions, which specialize in arranging visits between European enterprises and Iranian private and public companies.

The Iranian missions are also organizing a more general European business delegation to Iran in June, which Hanley is also due to lead.
