Chongqing Sets Up Web College
A college on the Internet was set up Friday in this southwest China municipality, as a branch of the Normal University of Southwest China (NUSW) under China's Ministry of Education.
The college will enroll 300 students for four-year higher- education courses in the fields of Chinese literature, English and computer science.
With the help of the Internet and other advanced long-distance education means, the number of students attending the college is expected to increase to 20,000 within five years.
The college will also carry out a series of research cooperation items on computer application and calculation with a prestigious university in the State of Illinois, the United States.
As one of China's 38 universities which have set up a system of modern long-distance education, NUSW has invested more than 20 million yuan in establishing computerized systems, opening teaching websites and using video frequency educational facilities.
