Holland Sponsors Central China Province to Build Garbage Disposal Plant

The municipal government of Wuhan, capital of central China's Hubei Province, initiated a Sino-Dutch garbage disposal plant project Tuesday.

The government of Holland will offer an investment of 9.4 million euro into the project, including commercial loans, equipment and technical support, and Wuhan will earmark nearly 52 million yuan (US$6.27 million) to add the total joint investment to about US$16 million.

Covering 23.4 hectares on Erfei Mountain in the city, the plant is designed to dispose of 800 tons of garbage and 250 tons of sewage water everyday.

Accelerated expansion of urban areas and urbanization have put enormous pressure on how garbage is disposed of in China.

More large cities are trying to introduce high-tech solutions in building garbage disposal plants in recent years. By the time the Holland-sponsored plant is put into operation, Wuhan, a city, with a population of more than seven million, may expect to increase its garbage disposal capacity by 17.4 percent.
