Security Beefed up along Kenyan, Ethiopian Border

Security along the Kenyan- Ethiopian border has been beefed up following the recent massacre of 10 Kenyans by Ethiopian militiamen, the Daily Nation newspapers reported Friday.

More regular and administrative police officers have been deployed and two police posts are to be put up in Uran Division, Moyale District of Eastern Province, the scene of the killings, according to the report.

In the past two months, about 100 Kenyan civilians and policemen were killed during the attacks by Ethiopian militiamen, the paper noted.

Two Kenyan assistant ministers said the visit to Kenya by a high-level Ethiopian delegation failed to guarantee that similar attacks will not recur.

During the visit by the Ethiopian delegation from February 13 to 15, the two countries have pledged to resolve the border skirmishes through dialogue.

Ethiopian officials said recently that bilateral relations are still cordial despite the border skirmishes and warned that those who want to drive a wedge between the two peoples will not succeed.
