11 Injured in SW China EarthquakeEleven people were injured in an earthquake measuring 6.0 on the Richter scale, which jolted Yajiang and Kangding of the Ganzi Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture in Sichuan Province, southwest China, Friday morning.The earthquake, which occurred at 8:09 a.m.(Beijing Time), hit more than 20 towns involving over 20,000 people in the Ganzi Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture and the Liangshan Yi Autonomous Prefecture, according to the Sichuan Provincial Seismological Bureau. Sources from Yajiang County reported that 10 people were injured in the county's Posihe Township, epicenter of the quake, and the Bayirong Township said one of its residents was seriously hurt. No casualty have been reported so far. Some of the houses in the quake-affected areas collapsed or cracked, and a hydropower station has been closed. Gong Zhaohe, director of the provincial seismological bureau, said that an earthquake measuring 5.0 on the Richter scale hit the area on February 14. The Sichuan Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China and the provincial government showed immediate concern over the quake and has dispatched a rescue team to help the affected people in the disaster area. |
