China to Build Qinghai-Tibet Railway

China has got its plan to start construction of the Qinghai-Tibet Railway in the second half of this year.

Cai Qinghua, vice minister of Railways, called at a national meeting on railway construction February 20 that full preparations for construction of the Gormo-Lhasa section with regards to organizational setup, construction and management will have to be underway in the second half of this year.

The Qinghai-Tibet Railway, 1925km long as designed, starting from Xining City, provincial capital of Qinghai, will have its terminus at Lhasa, Tibet Autonomous Region. It will be the highest railway in the world for a part of 965km railway will be built 4,000 meters above sea level in the area from Gormo to Lhasa with an elevation of 1118km.

It is reported that a major part of projects renovating communications reconstruction of the Qinghai-Tibet Railway has been completed recently.
